Soul Tsunami Essay Example

Soul Tsunami Essay Soul Tsunami †after hearing such articulations, a peruser will at first swim in an expanse of considerations coordinating to exacting implications of the words.â But in the pleasantly prepared social antiquarian, minister, hopeful, scholarly and futurist creator Leonard Sweet, he depicted such phrasings as a flowing marvel which clarifies the broad and canceling of postmodernism moving social recognitions (Sweet, 2001).â â Thus, outlining it as a reference point proposed for the going great of the congregation in engaging with the waves attempting to sink the ship of confidence and having the option to luckily satisfy its strategic calling to unpredicted difficulties. Sweet’s Christian-freed methods of depicting his perspectives on otherworldliness had unmistakably been figured in his masterpiece.â It tosses illusionary conditions on what's going on in the cutting edge universe of today, how it influences the poise of the congregation just as with the sleeking level of confidence in God by the quick changing requests of advancement. It offered ten alleged subject aides which he named as â€Å"Life Rings†, all of which handled pre-Christian culture,, â€Å"chaordic† chapels and pioneers, worldwide renaissance, hands on truth, the loss of hereditary honesty, godlet wonder, physical instincts, multi-refrains, and every single other concern which he sees as issues which disheartens the genuine goal of places of worship and religion (Sweet, 2001). It would take a thousand explores prompting nothing in stidying such words without disguising the importance of each phrase.â Indeed, his feeling of â€Å"being different† is difficult to defy.â But the entire substance of his book just weights on a certain something: and that it, not to oblige the progression of modernization’s blemishes, but instead to consistently return with the lessons of the â€Å"real† confidence inferred in the good book (The Holy Bible, 2005). A great deal of houses of worship have just wandered in using the thought Sweet has set up and suggested in his book.â Eventually, it is one motivation behind why I have been wisely joined with the Metropolitan Baptist Church.â The general public including the gathering helps in lifting up the savvy of Christianity; nobody would need to step out in the wake of encountering a modernized at this point all encompassing and constituent-concerned stewards. It’s like, staying with the traditional and interminable convictions on trust and Christianity, in spite of the fact that the hierarchical structure and the executives are not obsolete.â Indefatigably, the book provides food reality of the advanced world and the renders an echelon of challenge and trial of faith.â To consider not what Sweet has composed were valid, or stick on to it, it is upon an individual’s discretion.â Each part of his book entitles amazingly created words and contemplations supportive to those looking for truth throughout everyday life. What more for the individuals who have wandered off-track? In each reason and in each activity, one must consider the significance of speculation after doing.â There is in fact nothing of the sort as substances offering supreme security and wellbeing; everything relies upon the person’s soundness and fortitude (Sweet, 2001).â Faith isn't an element sold in the market, in book shops or in cafés to be eaten and be released after.â It is a consistent marvel which needs steadiness and common sense outfitted with otherworldliness and dedication to God.

Demand and Supply in Microeconomics

Request and Supply in Microeconomics Presentation Financial matters is an investigation of how to utilize restricted asset to fulfill boundless individuals needs. Request and flexibly is the two fundamental idea of the cutting edge financial. Request is the thing that individuals need and flexibly is what number of merchandise accessible for individuals need. In free market the cost of good is controlled by the quantities of shoppers and what number of items accessible for them. As the consequence of that, when customers comprehend the law of interest and flexibly they will have capacity to choose when they can purchase an item with low cost and the providers can set the correct cost of this item and choose what number of item they will make. For this situation study we will assess the hypothesis of interest and gracefully. We likewise give a case of interest and flexibly in food showcase in Hanoi in storm season. Hypothesis Request and gracefully may be one of the essential ideas of financial matters. It is the center of market economy. Request is the cost or amount of an item or administration wanted by purchasers. The interest relationship alludes to the connection between the cost and amount requested, which are the cost and amount individuals ready to pay for. Flexibly is the measure of items a market produces. The gracefully relationship speaks to the connection between the cost and amount provided, which are the cost and amount providers ready to create. In this way, cost is the primary worry for request and flexibly to think about expanded or deducted, thus request and gracefully fluctuate as per the cost. As per the law of interest and gracefully, the higher of an items value the more providers will create and the less individuals will purchase. Hence, the market cost is changes. ( Investopedia news and articles, copyright 2010 ) In such a case, the amount provided is more prominent than the amount requested and there is an overflow of the great available. From the diagram we see that if the unit cost is $3 (accepting relative valuing in dollars), the amounts provided and requested would be: Amount Supplied = 42 units Amount Demanded = 26 units Hence there would be an overflow of 42 26 = 16 units. The venders at that point would bring down their cost so as to sell the overflow. Assume the dealers brought down their costs beneath the harmony point. For this situation, the amount requested would increment past what was provided, and there would be a deficiency. On the off chance that the cost is held at $2, the amount provided then would be: Amount Supplied = 28 units Amount Demanded = 38 units Subsequently, there would be a lack of 38 28 = 10 units. The venders at that point would build their costs to make more benefit. The balance point must be where amount provided and amount requested are in balance, which is the place the gracefully and request bends cross. From the chart over, one sees this is at a cost of around $2.40 and an amount of 34 units. (NetMBA.com) When all is said in done, if the cost of an item is at low level, more individuals need to get it and the interest will increment. As the outcome, there will be a deficiency. The provider presently will create more since individuals despite everything need to utilize that item. So the gracefully increments. It will hold expanding to a point where clients request and the amount of that item is equivalent. Along these lines, there is an inclination toward a harmony point where amount requested equivalents amount provided. Then again, if the cost of an item is at significant level, fewer and fewer individuals need to get it thus the interest diminishes. At long last, there will be an excess. The provider presently will drop down the cost so as to pull in more clients. This value props up down until they sell all out of the excess. In this way, the cost is going in reverse to a balance point where cost requested equivalents cost provided. Things being what they are, how a firm realize when to deliver pretty much? As in THE TIMES 100 article expresses that A significant part of showcasing is realizing what the interest is for your items. All organizations participate in showcasing exercises to discover what the interest for their various items will be. For instance, Coca-Cola will need to examine showcase inclines in the carbonated beverages division, while a bank will need to get some answers concerning the interest for money related administrations. Equipped with this data they can settle on fitting estimating choices dependent on what different providers are doing, just as on the interest from shoppers in the market. Some primary components causing the adjustment sought after: Monetary components: When a nation economy is acceptable and individuals have more cash in their pockets. They likely need to expend more and therefore the interest will increment Social variables: As the social pattern changes, individuals may possess less energy for dealing with their homes. In this manner, they should purchase additionally clothes washers and recruit workers to do all the cleaning and cooking administrations. In this way, there will be greater open door for firms making clothes washer and more appeal for cleaning administration. The amount and the cost of serious products: the higher the cost of a serious decent, the higher will be the interest for this great as clients change from serious merchandise. A model for this is, if the cost of I-telephone cell phone goes up, the interest of other advanced cells will increment. Some primary variables causing the adjustment in flexibly: Needs: it is just the interest for a specific item. As the interest rises, the provisions will rise moreover. The quantity of providers: If new organizations join the market, generally the flexibly increments Normal and erratic occasions: If tremors, floods and fire happen, the yield prone to drop. Wars, which influence the flexibly of imported crude materials, the breakdown of apparatus, may happen whenever. (John Sloman (1998), and The Times 100, Copyright Ââ © the Times Newspapers) Request and Supply in Macroeconomics and Microeconomics: Macroeconomics is the investigation of the entire monetary exercises which incorporate expansion, downturn and unemployment㠢â‚ ¬Ã¢ ¦ Therefore, it worries with the all out interest and absolute gracefully. In the event that the complete interest is high contrasted with the all out flexibly, swelling and parity of exchange shortfalls will happen Expansion: is the expansion of the value level in the entire economy. On the off chance that there is an ascent sought after, providers likely respond by setting up significant expenses. All things considered, if the interest is still high, they can sell on a par with previously and make a ton of benefits. Swelling will happen when all providers simply keep their costs at elevated level. The parity of exchange shortages happens when import is more prominent than send out. At the point when the total interest rises, individuals will tend to purchase increasingly outside products, progressively imported vehicles, wines, electronic types of gear will be expended. On the off chance that the swelling is additionally high, the household products are significantly harder to contrast and outside merchandise. As the outcome, our merchandise can't be expended by our nation as well as remote nations. On the off chance that the all out interest is low contrasted with the all out gracefully, joblessness and downturn will happen Downturn: is the monetary circumstance when business exercises are declined. As the outcome, less and less individuals are eager to go through cash. Therefore, firms will have a ton of surplus merchandise. They prone to purchase less from the makers, which will diminish the creation consequently. Joblessness will occur if makers don't have to deliver any longer. Microeconomics is the examination about the individual pieces of economy, singular firms. It learns about the interest and flexibly of explicit items and administrations, for example, vehicles, garments, food, circuit repairmen. We can't make the same number of products as need in light of the fact that the absence of assets. There are a few decisions must be made in our general public: What ought to be created? We dont have enough assets to create the same number of merchandise as we need. Consequently, we need to choose what number of vehicles, what number of structures, what number of hospitals㠢â‚ ¬Ã¢ ¦ ought to be created? By what means should things be delivered? In the event that there is more than one approach to create thing, we need to conclude which is the best. Who will utilize our items? This is the issue of pay. We need to choose what the pay of specific employment, for example, specialist, engineer, farmer㠢â‚ ¬Ã¢ ¦ Because on the off chance that they have more cash, they prone to expend more (John Sloman, 1998) Contextual investigation In October of 2008, Ha Noi was overwhelmed by substantial downpours. Since the channels didn't work successfully as it should be. Individuals in Ha Noi had a horrible encounter due to the shortage of the food. Gaining from that experience, individuals in Ha Noi today for the most part store food when a tempest is reported coming. As the self evident certainty, at night of July seventeenth in 2010, the news anticipated that a tempest may be coming. In any case, in the following day, the climate turned ordinarily once more. In view of the stress over the shortage of food, individuals in Ha Noi previously raced to the general store and purchased the same number of nourishments as they can. The difference sought after and gracefully made a great deal of general store unavailable, additionally the cost of the food was multiplied the alleged cost. At some grocery store, individuals needed to battle, pushed each other just to top off their ice chest. Subsequently, they needed to eat solidified nourishment for quite a long time while low cost new food is selling all over the place. Now, the market needed to endure the abatement of food request since individuals previously had food in their ice che st. For this situation, when an interest shockingly increment the amount flexibly can't stand to fulfill all the necessities rather than that is the expanding of the cost. At the point when the interest drops down, the amount flexibly remains the equivalent yet the cost needs to tumble to draw in more clients. End These days, this present reality economy is too mind boggling that even now and again the law of interest and flexibly can't be applied. The market today is evolving unendingly; numerous individual theories are getting much increasingly more uncertainly. In this way, individuals shouldnt surge in choosing to purchase anything. As I would see it, stock and land markets are extremely dangerous for the individuals who

North America, Latin America, The Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa are Joined Economically and Culturally - Essay Example Individuals from differing foundations meet up through the digital world, cooperate, mingle, examine issues and keep themselves refreshed about whatever is going on through media. America is viewed as the world’s most noteworthy worldwide economy, particularly the Northern district, which is a far reaching blend of individuals from differing foundations. The major worldwide changes start in this district of the world and afterward spread wherever rapidly attributable to the various advantages of globalization. On the other outrageous, there is Africa, where development has been negligible consistently, which implies that globalization was likewise at an absolute minimum. In these two boundaries lie Latin America and the Caribbean where globalization and development were at a consistent rate, a lot lesser than in North America however a lot higher than in Sub Saharan Africa. For example, Mexico had a high pace of globalization when contrasted with other Caribbean States. Africa is normally observed as a spot where there is a serious absence of assets and, in extraordinary cases, individuals are kicking the bucket of yearning. 5 Books by Queer Korean Americans You Need in Your Life

5 Books by Queer Korean Americans You Need in Your Life Books by queer Korean Americans arent exactly abundant, but there are definitely more than there used to be. O Magazine  recently published an article by author R.O. Kwon about why she chose to come out as bisexual earlier this year. In the article, Kwon talked about her decision in the context of being Korean American. She counted up four other existing queer Korean American writers with published books, and expressed her desire to add to this slim, ferocious list of names. As a bisexual Korean American writer myself (albeit without a book published yet), Ive been watching the aforementioned list grow with interest. Despite the still relatively modest presence of queer Korean American literature, a few very notable works have popped up just within the past couple years. So who are the writers who have made this slim, ferocious list? What have they been up to? Heres a starter kit of selected books. Sorry to Disrupt the Peace by Patty Yumi Cottrell Im reluctant to point out the quirkiness of this 2017 novel, because quirkiness in writing usually isnt a selling point for me, but Sorry to Disrupt the Peace is really odd in the best way. Helen Moran receives word that her adoptive brother has killed himself. She decides to fly from NYC to her childhood home in suburban Milwaukee to investigate his death. This proves to be something of a challenge, as she hasnt been on speaking terms with her adoptive parents for a while. But Helen has a way of following through on her impulses that makes her a disturbingly funny and delightfully weird character. Throughout the text, Helen refers to her adoptive brother and adoptive parents as such. This quirk is so noticeable that it informs the whole tone and texture of the narration.  Sorry to Disrupt the Peace  is full of discomfiting humor, but also surprising sincerity. The Incendiaries by R.O. Kwon The Incendiaries follows Phoebe, a young woman whos drawn to a cult, and her boyfriend Will, a transfer student whos lost his Christian faith. The early coverage of this book last year seemed to focus on the questions it raises about faithâ€"and not wrongly, as this is a big part of what The Incendiaries is about. But knowing this didnt prepare me for how virtuosic of a work it would be. It didnt prepare me for such an ambitious swirl of language and viewpoints. The Incendiaries is bold in its stylistic choices, and impressively broad in scope considering that its a relatively short book. It plays with the readers perceptions and assumptions. Theres a whole world churning beneath its surface. How to Write an Autobiographical Novel by Alexander Chee The biggest surprise of this 2018 essay collection may be that the title is not being cute. How to Write an Autobiographical Novel  does address the challenges of writing autobiographical material, however loosely. Sure, Chee talks about subjects as varied as tarot cards, roses, and a summer he spent in Mexico as a teen. But the essays ultimately paint a picture of his life as a writer, as well as the effects living and writing have on one another. Alexander Chee has emerged as a natural mentor figure not just for Korean American writers, but Asian diaspora and marginalized writers in general. One reason for this is that his debut novel Edinburgh was published in 2001. At that time, there was much less visibility for Korean and Asian writers in the Western world. Chee has also made a point of using his platform as a known author to be supportive of and helpful to others. The Lost Prayers of Ricky Graves by James Han Mattson This compulsively readable 2017 book gets into the blessings and hazards of extremely online culture, particularly for marginalized people. A closeted teenage boy in a small town reaches out to an openly gay man in San Francisco through a chat app. The boys mother, concerned about her socially withdrawn son, emails a famous author for personal advice. An Asian girl in the same town seeks community in an online social justice organization after her crush makes racist remarks about her. While seeing emails, texts, and instant messages in fiction these days is nothing new, Mattson uses these forms with an accuracy that burns. But  The Lost Prayers of Ricky Graves  isnt only about portraying internet technology as a source of tragedy. Its also a non-cynical reminder of how real community and support can exist behind a smiley or heart emoji. Soft Science by Franny Choi Franny Chois Soft Science, which follows her 2014 debut Floating, Brilliant, Gone and the 2017 chapbook Death by Sex Machine, is simply  not to be missed. Soft Science revolves heavily around the theme of bodies and the implications of existing in a body, particularly with regards to queerness, race, and femininity. It plays with the idea of artificial intelligence vs. human intelligence, delving into how humans, some more than others, are expected to perform human-ness in a way that is in itself artificial. In an interview with NPR, Choi made a statement about how things in the publishing industry may be changing for the better. While its about artists of color in poetry, Id like to share part of it here because I think it also sums up the sentiment behind this list: And what I see happening around me is a lot of amazing artists who are kind of refusing to think with this, like, scarcity model…and to really try to, like, bring all of us up together and, you know, reach new readers who have felt alienated from poetry for so long who are able to now be part of this big party that were starting. A disclaimer about the content of this post: Im using the term Korean American purely as a way of describing a demographic and not as an assumption of personal identity. Some people of Korean heritage prefer to identify themselves as simply Korean regardless of where they live or were born. This post isnt necessarily meant to be exhaustive, either, but rather just to expand on Kwons list. There may not be many books by queer Korean Americans at this point in time. But the ones that do exist contain some of the most exciting literature out there.

Profiles and College Admissions

Profiles and College Admissions October 25 An editorial on the pages of The Washington Post proposes a major change to the college admissions process. We happen to think the proposed idea is half baked. Or maybe an eighth baked! We came across an editorial in The Washington Post written by Dennis Eller, a school counselor in Fort Wayne, Indiana, that proposes a new solution to the cumbersome existing college admissions process  in place. Essentially, Mr. Eller argues that the current college admissions process it too compacted. Students have to rely on teachers and school counselors submitting letters of recommendation. They have to rely on the College Board sending score reports.  You get the idea. He also, rightfully, argues that the organizations that gain a pretty penny from this cumbersome process are The Common Application, The College Board, Naviance, and ACT to name a few. Hes certainly not wrong on this point. Its something weve been saying on the pages of this college admissions blog for years. But were not so sure of Mr. Ellers proposed solution to the process. As he articulates, There must be a better way. And there is.  Online profiles are certainly nothing new. Aspiring high school athletes use sites like  Prospectsites.com  and  beRecruited.com  to get the attention of college coaches. Business men and women use  LinkedIn  and  XING  to network with other professionals, find employees as well as new jobs. What’s keeping the college application process from taking this next step? He then proposes that teachers can submit their recommendation letters to the online profile and scores can be submitted there as well, etc. Were not so sure why this online profile is so different from the Common Application. While, if youre a regular reader of our blog, you know well that we are no fans of the Common App., this doesnt seem like much of a solution. In fact, it seems even worse. Students have to market themselves to colleges and the colleges have to peruse their online profiles? How will Yale know that this student actually would want to go to school in New Haven if the student didnt apply? How will the student not be able to see the confidential teacher letters of recommendation? What if a teacher wanted to write that she suspects the student might be a potential terrorist? That would be an important nugget of information to know but shed be less likely to share it if all could see it in the students online profile including the student. It seems like this idea isnt fully baked! Wouldnt you say? We havent even scratched the surface of all of the problems we see with it

Third MeditationThe Existence of God Essay - 1124 Words

In the Third Meditation, entitled â€Å"Of God: That He Exists†, Rene Descartes presents an argument for the existence of God. Meditation III talks about what is real and how to justify it. Descartes acknowledges of being doubtful of bodily things but is absolutely assured that he exists and he clearly and distinctly perceives this fact. As he confirms: I am a thinking (conscious) thing, that is, a being who doubts, affirms, denies, knows a few objects, and is ignorant of many, - [who loves, hates], wills, refuses, who imagines likewise, and perceives. . . This means he cannot be mistaken with regard to the ideas of his own. Howe ver, he can make mistakes through his judgments. â€Å"There thus only remain our judgments, in which we must take diligent heed that we be not deceived† (Descartes 67). Thus, this leads Descartes into categorizing his idea by their origins. Ideas can be innate, adventitious, comes from outside of us, and can be made by us, example an idea of a unicorn. Of these three ideas, Descartes’ takes the greatest importance in adventitious ideas. He realizes that most of the time we believe we perceive things outside of our mind without any degree of reality. For example, his idea of the two suns: The one, by which it appears to me extremely small draws its origin from the senses, and should be placed in the class of adventitious ideas; the other, by which it seems to be many times larger than the whole earth, is taken up on astronomical grounds, that is, elicited from certain notions born with me. . . (Descartes 68) Obviously, both of these ideas cannot be true. Therefore, this leads him to scrutinize carefully the question of the external causes of reality. Focusing in Composition Definition and Examples

In composition, public speaking, and the writing process, focusing refers to the various strategies involved in narrowing a topic, identifying a purpose, defining an audience, choosing a method of organization, and applying revision techniques. Tom Waldrep describes focusing as the moment of tunnel vision... Focusing is the mood or mode of fierce concentration that funnels thought from its diffuse matrix into fully discursive form (Writers on Writing, 1985). Etymology: from the Latin, hearth. Observations One very important aspect of motivation is the willingness to stop and to look at things that no one else has bothered to look at. This simple process of focusing on things that are normally taken for granted is a powerful source of creativity. (Edward de Bono, Lateral Thinking: Creativity Step by Step. Harper Row, 1970) We think of focus as a visual effect, a lens we look through to see the world more clearly. But I have come to see it as a knife, a blade I can use to slice the fat out of a story, leaving behind only the strength of muscle and bone... If you think of focus as a sharp knife, you can test every detail in a story, and when you find something that does not fit (no matter how interesting), you can take your blade and cut it, neatly, quickly, no bleeding or suffering involved. (Roy Peter Clark, Help! for Writers: 210 Solutions to the Problems Every Writer Faces. Little, Brown and Company, 2011) Narrowing a Topic for an Essay, Speech, or Research Paper As you explore possible topics, avoid ones that are too large, too obscure, too emotional, or too complicated for you to work within the allotted time. . . . Although a number of techniques exist for narrowing your topic once you have a general idea of what you want to write about, most approaches encourage you to mess around with the ideas to begin to make them your own (McKowen, 1996). Do some freewriting. Write without stopping for a while just to get some thoughts on paper. Or try brainstorming, in which you write down all of the concepts or ideas that occur to you on the topic. Talk to a friend to stir up ideas. Or try asking these questions about the topic: who, what, when, where, why, and how? Finally, do some reading on the topic to start the focusing process. (John W. Santrock and Jane S. Halonen, Connections to College Success. Thomson Wadsworth, 2007) One way to narrow down your topic is to break it down into categories. Write your general topic at the top of a list, with each successive word a more specific or concrete topic. . . . [For example, you] might begin with the very general topic of cars and trucks and then narrow the topic down a step at a time until you focus on one particular model (the Chevy Tahoe hybrid) and decide to persuade your listeners about the advantages of owning a hybrid vehicle with all of the SUV amenities. (Dan OHair and Mary Wiemann, Real Communication: An Introduction, 2nd ed. Bedford/St. Martins, 2012) The most common criticism of a research paper is that its topic is too broad...Concept maps [or clustering]...can be used to visually narrow a topic. Write your general subject on a blank sheet of paper and circle it. Next, write down subtopics of your general subject, circle each, and connect them with lines to the general subject. Then write and circle subtopics of your subtopics. At this point, you may have a suitably narrow subject. If not, keep adding levels of subtopics until you arrive at one. (Walter Pauk and Ross J. Q. Owens, How to Study in College, 10th ed. Wadsworth, 2011) Donald Murray on Ways of Achieving Focus Writers have to find a focus, a possible meaning in all the mess that will allow them to explore the subject in a relatively orderly fashion so they can continue through the writing process to find out if they have anything worth saying--and worth a readers hearing... I interview myself, asking questions similar to the ones I asked to find the subject: - What information have I discovered that surprised me the most?- What will surprise my reader?- What one thing does my reader need to know?- What one thing have I learned that I didnt expect to learn?- What can I say in one sentence that tells me the meaning of what I have explored?- What one thing--person, place, event, detail, fact, quotation--have I found that contains the essential meaning of the subject?- What is the pattern of meaning I have discovered?- What cant be left out of what I have to write about?- What one thing do I need to know more about? There are a number of techniques to focus on a subject. The writer, of course, only uses the techniques that are necessary to achieve a focus. (Donald N. Murray, Read to Write: A Writing Process Reader, 2nd ed. Holt, Rinehart, and Winston, 1990) Focusing Strategies of ESL Writers [L]ess experienced L1 and L2 writers may focus prematurely--and with less than satisfactory results--on microlevel features such as grammatical, lexical, and mechanical accuracy, as opposed to discourse-level concerns such as audience, purpose, rhetorical structure, coherence, cohesion, and clarity (Cumming, 1989; Jones, 1985; New, 1999)... L2 writers may require targeted instruction aimed at the development of specific linguistic skills, rhetorical expertise, and composing strategies. (Dana R. Ferris and John S. Hedgcock, Teaching ESL Composition: Purpose, Process, and Practice, 2nd ed. Lawrence Erlbaum, 2005) Focusing on Audience and Purpose Audience and purpose are central concerns of experienced writers when they revise, and two research studies examined the effect of directing students attention to these aspects of composing. In a 1981 study, [J.N.] Hays asked basic and advanced writers to write an essay for high school students about the effects of using marijuana. Based on her analysis of composing protocols and interviews, Hays found that those students, whether basic or advanced writers, who had a strong sense of audience and of purpose wrote better papers than those who lacked a strong sense of purpose and focused on the teacher as the audience or had little awareness of the audience. [D.H.] Roen [R.J.] Wylie (1988) conducted a study that asked students to focus on audience by considering the knowledge that their readers probably possessed. Students who considered their audience during revision received higher holistic scores than those who did not. (Irene L. Clark, Concepts in Composition: Theory and Practice in the Teaching of Writing. Lawrence Erlbaum, 2003) Pete Hamills One Word of Writing Advice In his memoir  A Drinking Life  (1994), veteran journalist  Pete Hamill  recounts his first few days clumsily disguised as a reporter at the old  New York Post. Unburdened by training or experience, he picked up the fundamentals of newspaper writing from the  Posts  assistant night city editor, Ed Kosner. All through the night in the sparsely manned city room, I wrote small stories based on press releases or items clipped from the early editions of the morning papers. I noticed that Kosner had Scotch-taped a single word to his own typewriter:  Focus . I appropriated the word as my motto. My nervousness ebbed as I worked, asking myself: What does this story say? What is new? How would I tell it to someone in a saloon?  Focus , I said to myself.  Focus . Of course, simply  telling  ourselves to  focus  wont magically produce a  lead  or a  thesis. But responding to Hamills three questions may help us to focus on finding the right words: It was  Samuel Johnson  who said that the prospect of hanging concentrates [the] mind wonderfully. The same might be said of  deadlines. But isnt writing hard enough already without having to depend on anxiety to motivate us? Instead, take a deep breath. Ask a few simple questions. And  focus. What does this story (or report or essay) say? What is new (or most important)? How would I tell it to someone in a saloon (or, if you prefer, a coffee shop or cafeteria)?

An Investigation Into the Major Factors Affecting Project...

Rationale: The purpose of this paper is to analyse some causes constraining the construction process in Vietnam in recent times, and therefore, to recommend a number of solutions. 1. Introduction 1.1. Background Since economic reformation in the mid 1980s, Vietnam has made efforts to develop market economy, and therefore, this country has achieved many significant goals, especially in the industrial and service sectors. Besides these successes, it cannot be denied that the construction industry has played an important role by contributing a large proportion in the national economy. The General Statistics Office of Vietnam (2007), for instance, showed that capital invested into construction was approximately 21,136 billion VND (1†¦show more content†¦In Southeast Asia country like Vietnam, having high positions in ranking list, issues relating to site conditions such as clearance or resettlement have become obstacles in executing large projects (Long et al., 2008). After reviewing various realistic causes of construction delays, another crucial thing is classification. According to Bramble and Callahan (1999), roots causes of delays can be divided into owner-caused, c ontractor-caused, designer-caused, subcontractor-caused or external ones. Generally, however, it can be said that there are merely two fundamental kinds of causes of delay, including excusable and non-excusable one. In contemporary times, almost experts agree with the idea of dividing causes of delay into two basic above groups. 2.2. Excusable causes Excusable delays are usually from the owners or by accident. In other words, delays belong to this group are of the type for which the contractors are not contractually liable thank to unpredictable events out of involved-parties’ intervention. 2.2.1. Compensable delays In case the owners initiated problems, delays are put into that categorise. Thus, the contractors may make claims asking the owners to find solutions for delays’ consequences such as additional financial compensation. Nowadays, in Vietnam, management units frequently meet excusable compensable delaysShow MoreRelatedMaster plan for the development of Vietname s motorcycle industry in the period of 2006-2015 with a vision to 202026479 Words   |  106 PagesMINISTRY OF INDUSTRY INSTITUTE FOR INDUSTRY POLICY AND STRATEGY MASTER PLAN FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF VIETNAM’S MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY IN THE PERIOD OF 2006-2015, WITH A VISION TO 2020 Project management: Ministry of Industry Project executing: Institute for Industry Policy and Strategy Project leader: Nguyen Anh Nam July 2007 CONTENTS Introduction 3 Part 1. Children Rights for Education Free Essays

In John Holts essay, â€Å"Freedom for Children† he discusses how children should have their own right to decide how much, when, and what to learn. Holt states that by taking children†s right to learn, we are taking a fundamental right away from them. He also states that, to adults, the right to decide what does and does not interest us is taken for granted and that we are unknowingly taking this right away from children. We will write a custom essay sample on Children Rights for Education or any similar topic only for you Order Now Holt also states that by sending children to school six hours a day, 180 days a year, for about 10 years we are limiting them. Holt concludes that children are no longer learning, but rather are taught what adults think they should know. I personally disagree with Holts on this matter. If children had the right to control their education, what would stop them from even going or learning things that could be damaging to society? I feel the have plenty of rights as it is. Children today have many rights already in the field of education. In elementary school, no one forces them to stop learning. They can always choose to further their education, by reading perhaps. In high school, there are a variety of classes a student can choose from. All these classes can be selected to fit an individual student. Classes ranging from art and drama all the way up to advanced placement physics are at the disposal of those who want to learn. No one forces children to take these classes. Students take these classes of their own free will. Once in college, a student has the right to choose whatever major they feel fit to be in. If they don†t like that major, they can always change it. What would happen if students were allowed to come and go as they please? All too often, students would never go to class. They would abuse their right and spend their days having fun. I have personally seen friends leave school because they don†t want to be there. If they didn†t have to be there they would not have come in the first place. There are certain things that students should know. Basic math and English skills are required jus to get by in today†s society. If these basic skills are never learned, we risk having an underdeveloped society full of uneducated people. Our world would literally crumble because we run the chance of people not knowing anything. Limiting what children learn today is not the way we want to have them grow up. If we did that, we would have them grow up with a natural tendency to learn what is harmful or wrong to society. What we are trying to do is guide them in life so what they can make the right decisions in life. Exposing them to what is right in the world will help them open up to new opportunities and experiences. As we can see, we are not limiting on what a person can learn, but only protecting that person from abusing it. So many things can go wrong if a person were allowed to take control of their own education. Abuse and neglect are only a few possibilities. The way education is now was designed to be the best for those willing and even unwilling to learn. Those willing can receive the best education their mind is able to give them. The unwilling receive the basics and don†t become a burden on society. Holts† idea of unhindered learning may be an idealistic one, but in the end there are too many flaws and loopholes. An education like that could be societies downfall when our system is extremely efficient now. How to cite Children Rights for Education, Papers

Reaction to Tuesdays with Morrie Essay Example For Students

Reaction to Tuesdays with Morrie Essay Tuesdays with Morrie is a phenomenal book. Lately I have been too busy to read books, so I have skimmed them, but when I started to read this book, I could not put it down. A strong student-teacher relationship is really unknown these days. In most instances it is a US against THEM mentality with the students being the US and the teachers being the THEM. In an education setting this can occur, when this wall is thrown up, there are too many obstacles to try and overcome. I liked this book for several reasons. One being I had a teacher in my senior year in high school who was my inspiration. She pushed me and motivated me to go over and beyond the call of duty and to that I give her many thanks. Whenever I had a problem I could go and talk to her and she would be there for me. At times she was my mom and other times she was a friend. Just like Mitch, there were times in which Morrie served as Mitchs teacher and other times when he was just a friend. When I first looked at the book cover I wondered why was the title what it was. Then after reading the book and realizing that everything they did took place on a Tuesday made perfect sense. Morries classes were on Tuesdays, his office hours were on Tuesdays, their get togethers were on Tuesdays, and so was Morries funeral. Symbolism and irony is what I could call this. By this being a true story, it is really awkward that all these events occurred on Tuesdays. I definitely believe in spirituality and fate and it was truly fate when Mitch saw the television and it mentioned something about Morrie. Then this started the Tuesday class sessions. Morries courage was very evident, he was not afraid to die, unlike most of us. Most people are terrified of death, and it is hard to deal with it, especially when you do not know when it is going to occur. However, Morrie knew death was approaching soon and he did not show fear. He continued to live his life as any other person would. Although he could not do the things he did before or as most healthy people did, he was still a fighter who refused to just stop living. Morrie said he knew it would be trouble as soon as someone had to wipe his ass. This was hard for many reasons, one being he knew death was soon and two he is a man. Men are not suppose to ask for help (at least that is what some people think) especially not to help wipe their ass. This book is the best example of how you need to tell people how you feel before it is too late. Morrie had double trouble, his professor was dying and his brother who had cancer did not want to talk to him. During hard and difficult times, I have come to the realization that family is the best medicine for me. This book should me how perseverance can get you through anything. Most often the important things we learn in life do not come from a textbook, but from those around us. I often wonder why would I have spent almost $100,000 for a degree so I may go into another school and pay about $150,000. Our society is really weird. Although education is the key, sometimes I wonder if I know more things than I did when I was in High School. A lot of the information has been the same with a few minor twists. Tuesdays with Morrie, was truly a story dealing with life and death, how dying man turned death into a beautiful thing? Morrie had an excellent point, when you die people come to your funeral and say great things about you. The problem with this is you never hear them. So Morrie decided to have a living funeral, so all those who wanted to thank him or say something special could actually have the opportunity to do so. Morbid in a sense yes, however once again, makes a lot of sense. .

Final Expository free essay sample

Even though some people believe that being homosexual is a choice made by an individual either as a way to rebel or as a perversion, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community (LGBT) deserve the same rights that heterosexuals are entitled to. Rights such as the right to be married in more than just a few states and the right to openly serve in the military without the fear of being discharged.Lately there have been several news stories that involve the LGBT in some way, the biggest being the teens that committed suicide because of bullying in school or over the Internet. It is stories like these that make a person wonder if there will ever be a day that the LGBT are accepted or at least be left alone to live their own lives as they are. So many people are being discharged from the military because the word got out that they are homosexual, including officers that have been in the military for years. We will write a custom essay sample on Final Expository or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This should not be allowed to go on.These men have literally been risking their lives for years for no reason but pride in their country and they are discharged because they are seen unfit to serve the country. Gay rights is a big topic in the United States right now and is the main focus of this expository essay. The LGBT community deserves the same rights that everyone else is entitled to. According to research, in 1779, Thomas Jefferson proposed a law on any gay man or gay woman that, if broken, would mean the men would be castrated and the womens nose cartilage would be mutilated (Head, 2010). The U. S. Supreme Court finally put a stop to laws like these after enforcing them for 224 years (Head, 2010). In 1951 the first national gay rights organization was founded, but because of the times it was too dangerous and not to mention illegal so they had to meet in code (Head, 2010). In 1969 the gay rights movement really accelerated, after raiding a gay bar in Greenwich Village and arresting employees and drag performers the NYPD got more than they bargained for, a crowd of more than 2,000 gay, lesbian, and transgender upporters of the bar took on the police and forced them into the bar which caused a three-day long riot. Since then there have been several presidents and businesses that have come out as supporters of gay rights. There were states that started to let gays get married and some that started to then took it away such as California recently. One would think that of all the rights that should automatically be given to the LGBT, the right to openly serve in the military would be at the top. However, that isnt the case. Many men and women have been discharged from the military for simply being proud of who they are. Some of whom served in the military for years, risking their lives to keep America safe. Americas history has had several different policies when it comes to homosexuals in the military. Before World War II there were no written policies against homosexuals serving in the military, except that sodomy was thought as a crime by military law ever since the Revolutionary War times (Powers,2010).However, during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, homosexuality was defined as a mental defect and all homosexuals were barred from serving based on medical problems (Powers, 2010). In 1982 the Department of Defense actually came out saying that homosexuality was incompatible with military service, in a DOD directive causing nearly 17,000 men and women to be discharged during the 1980s (Powers, 2010).By the end of this decade, several homosexuals of the military publically came out and challenged their discharges through the legal system and by the beginning of 1993 it appeared that the militarys ban on homosexual personnel would soon be overturned (Powers,2010). After a long debate and congressional hearings President Clinton and Senator Sam Nunn reached a compromise which they called Dont Ask, Dont Tell, Dont Pursue, under its terms those serving in the military will not be asked about their sexual orientation and would not be discharged simply for being homosexual. However, having sexual relations, or displaying any sort of attraction to the same sex, or telling any other military personnel about their sexual orientation is considered homosexual conduct under the policy and is a basis for involuntary discharge (Powers, 2010). As of right now Dont Ask, Dont Tell remains in effect, and will continue to for awhile it seems. President Obama is taking a different stance on the issue and instead of facing the problem head-on is putting it aside for a later date (Powers,2010).I have faith that one day, maybe not in my generation or lifetime, but someday the LGBT community will be given the rights that they are entitled to as free Americans. Although this essay is focused mainly on the fight for gay rights in the United States alone, people need to understand that the LGBT is fighting for their rights all over the world. In Spain, where the kings and queens were once the biggest defenders of the Christian religion, the socialist government has launched a reform that will grant gays and lesbians the right to legal get married and adopt (Graff, 2004).Even though Europe has a long tradition of protecting gay rights, Denmark was actually the first to introduce registered partnerships between homosexual couples in 1989 (Graff, 2004). The Dutch finally legalized same-sex marriage in 2001 (Graff, 2004). So why cant the United States? Why are we so far behind in the times? The United States, however, is surprisingly not the worst country when it comes to legalizing gay rights. Spain is actually where the fight is fiercest, even though the government will allow homosexual couples to marry and adopt children, the Church has calle d on Spanish Catholics to help fight the legislation (Graff, 2004).Which isnt anywhere near as bad as Italy, where the Italian parliament has passed one of the harshest assisted-fertility laws in Europe that bans donor sperm, donor eggs, and surrogate motherhood, all of which homosexual couples can take advantage of to have children, and limits assisted-fertility treatments to stable heterosexual couples (Graff, 2004). In the United States, same-sex couples couldnt wed anywhere in the country until 2004. But now, same-sex marriage is legal in six states: Vermont, Iowa, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire (Vestal,2009).Currently, the United States is divided on whether or not to redefine marriage. The California Supreme Court approved the voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage but in turn allowed the 18,000 homosexual couples that had married before Proposition 8 took effect to continue to legally be married (Vestal, 2009). On top of this, twenty-nine other states have voter-approved prohibitions that block same-sex marriage in their states constitution to try and keep the judges from overturning the bans on same-sex marriage. In polls, a very large amount of Americans re still against equal marriage rights for the LGBT, but these margins are getting smaller (Vestal,2009). If gays continue to be denied these rights they miss out on benefits that heterosexual couples are automatica lly entitled to.

Strategic Information Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

Strategic Information Management - Essay Example This essay discusses that for any organisation, the strategic planning begins with clearly demarcated missions. The mission of an organisation defines the fundamental purpose of the company in the industry with respect to products or services it provides to the customers. It is the mission of an organisation which describes the cause for existence of the company in the market. Furthermore, the mission statement also tells about the abilities by which organisations seek to compete in the market and peruse success. On the other hand, strategies initiated by any organisation explain the limitations under which the company can conduct its business operations. The strategies of organisations are developed and implemented by management which describe the geographic restrictions, market operations, methods of conducting business and development of products or services. The mission of an organisation is translated in every deeds of organisation, and therefore the strategies are developed in such a way so that it can provide a framework about accomplishing the mission. Business Responses to the Global Economic Crisis

Business Responses to the Global Economic Crisis Global Economic crisis began in 2008 and has drawn a great amount of blood from the financial sector of both developed and developing economy. Under usual circumstances the fall of one will result in rise of another economy. But with GFC the mighty economies has fallen and the developing economies has reached stagnation stage in their growth. UK is one of the economies that are affected by the crisis above the moderate level but not as serious as USA. Economic recovery is taking place all around the world and UK is one among them. Beginning of British economy slowdown was marked when the Northern Rock bank was forced to apply to the Bank of England for emergency financial support on 13thSeptember 2007. The British economy went to serious slowdown in 2008 3rd quarter (Authers, 2012). The economy temporarily exited it in the 4thquarter of 2009, only to enter a double dip recession in the first quarter of 2012 (Office for National Statistics, 2012). The present statement from Bank of England regarding the robust recovery is positive news for the market. The present president of bank Mr Mark Carney has devised a good plan to bring the economy out of recession. As a result of the concentrated efforts from Bank of England the growth has shown a steady rise. The present policies taken by the policy determining panel are being analysed through the viewpoint of the banks new forward guidance† policy. This new policy has given the markets, business and individuals a control over the interest rates of coming months . The rate of interest is now kept at an all-time low in order to pump more money into the market. Another sign of recovery is the revival of housing industry, thanks to the â€Å"help to buy† policy of government. The increase found in number of mortgage approvals for house purchase is a testimony of this fact. Bank of England strongly believes that monetary stimulus is found to be considerable and the investors have started showing confidence in market and overall sentiment is confident and positive. Growth will be stable and economy will be recovering just simply with this stimulus if the economy of Britain is an isolated one. But this is not so as the economy is linked with various economies of world. The stability of trading partners is an essential prerequisite for staging a sustained growth. The imbalance between export and domestic usage of production also point towards the greater risk of a double dip as similar to one that happened in 2009-10. The present growth rate of 3% is not a high figure under normal circumstances. But considering the slow growth of allied economies tis could be viewed as a robust growth According to Mark Carney new policy unemployment reduction is target of the current policy. The interest rates will be kept low till the unemployment drops from 7.7 to 7%. The recovery of economy is greatly dependent on the financial stability of both workers and companies. HRM policies have a significant role to play in this resurrection of economy. Studies show that half of the working population are into the job not because they love doing the present job but because they do not have another job to pursue. Hence when the economy is recovering they will move out in search for better job. This leaves their primary employer stranded. Good HR Management strategy is to be kept in place to ensure that the best are retained and worst are laid off as the economy recovers. This is a critical role of HRM in recovery period of economy. The productivity of employee determines the profitability of a company. The salary paid to an employee during recession time was above the contribution made by him in monetary terms. This could hamper the growth prospects of economy because with such a structure of pay he will be spending more than what he produce giving rise to economic instability. It is the function of HRM to bring out parity between the productivity and income so that growth of economy will not be affected. Similarly another factor that determines the production level of every employee is the motivation levels. Prior to recession time companies have spent well on employee engagement programme. During the recession time they had to cut down the cost and this was an area that became scapegoat of cut down. In the recovery period it is essential to keep employees from different cultures motivated. This can provide sufficient propulsion for growth programme. HR team has to look for cost cutting but viable option like flexible working time for its employees so that operational cost can be brought down significantly. Research shows that during the recession time the stress level of employees were very high. The permanency of their job was a concern for all of them. The stress levels need to be brought down to normal level in order to get the best output from each of them. This will help a lot in improving recovery rate of economy. Another contribution needed from HR team for a recovering economy would be to manage the sudden demand from employees for salary hike. A company based out of UK will find it difficult to hike the salary of their employees in another country which is not it by recession as the parent company lies in a recession hit economy. The pay of many employees was frozen for a long period. The employees who shared the pain of recession expect that they will be rewarded for their sufferings with a serious hike. But the growth rate of 3 % is not that robust enough to facilitate a pay hike for all of them. This will result in elevated level of grievance. Negative sentiment created in the mind of work force can create reduction in productivity which ultimately affect growth rate. It is the role of IHRM team to contain the angst of these people, in UK and abroad, and make them realise the situation and bring them to the main stream of production without any angst. Skill shortage among employees is a serious area of concern in this period of economic recovery. But no significant investment is, made on training front as measure of cost cutting. The concentration on skill development needs to be improved to stage good performance in recover period. Britain’s economy as well as world economy is on a recovery mode and the new policy implemented by new president of bank of England is taking the economy in the right direction. The HRM activities have a significant role to play in improving the economic conditions. The productivity is directly related to man power and their mind set. Keeping them ready and fit for growth is the task in the hands of HRM teams all around the globe. Reduction in human capital cost without compromising on motivation level would be the target of HRM teams all around the world. Inflation and interest rates are closely related and determine the health of economy. Too high levels of both the factors portray the poor health of economy. Inflation always follows good economic growth. Theoretical speaking inflation is caused when too much money is chasing too few goods in market. The money inflow into the market takes place when the population of a country is paid well. Inflation rate will be low in an economy where employment levels are low. The new policy of bank of England to keep a control over the hike of interest rates has shown good sentiments in market. The bank is planning to keep the interest rate on borrowings fixed at all-time low of 0.5 % till the level of unemployment fall to 7%. This ensures that sufficient money is available for entrepreneurs to invest and there by generating more employment. If things goes as expected more employment will produce more salaried person and hence more spending. This will set up the ideal stage for inflation to enter the economy. Under usual circumstances the enhanced money flow into the market will create a condition where domestic production is low but expenditure is high. All this boils down to too much money chasing few goods. The vicious circle of inflation is kicked off by these events. Increased money flow in the market will force the controlling financial institution to hike interest rate. The hike in interest rate will dampen economic growth .as the above mentioned e vents unfold the economy gets crippled and falls back to period of under growth. The bank of England’s feels that the possibility of an inflation-induced, economy-crippling rise in interest rates over the next couple of years is not in line of sight. According to them there are plenty of gaps it the economy and this will prevent setting up of the vicious circle of inflation. By definition, output falls in a recession. At the same time, it is common for some people to lose their jobs or to reduce their hours of work. The path of labor productivity in a recession is determined by the relative sizes of the falls in output and total hours worked. The bank strongly believes that the productivity and efficiency of workers will improve and the extra demand for goods and services could be met by the same working population producing more in for same salary. The data of Britain’s productivity do not justify bank of England’s claim. Off late in Q2 and Q3 0f 2013 productivity failed to touch 100%. This is a point of concern. Many reasons are there for the fall in productivity. Usually under periods of recession employees are supposed to work more in fear of termination. But the companies have preferred to hold on to nonperforming employees in order to avoid rehiring and retaining them once recession ends. This is presently creating a class of lazy work force. The real wages of employees are falling and this prompts the employer to move forward with more labor intensive methods of production and hence affecting the productivity. Data from Office of National statistics reveals an alarming picture of Britain’s working population. It shows that British workers are less productive than before the recession. In 2012 the countrys output per worker was 19% below the average for the rest of the major industrialized economies, while output per hour was 16% lower. The present policy of increasing the rate of interest rate when unemployment falls under 7% needs to be scanned properly. If the percentage of unemployment is the driving force for deciding interest rates the there is a serious problem at hand. With the present system economy is relying on falling real wages rather than improved productivity. The percentage of unemployment is falling and this is not by virtue of growth of economy but due to falling real wages. The reduced cost of hiring has led the employers to hire more thereby reducing unemployment percentage. According to above discussed data the number of employed person are increasing without productivity improvement. This will result in inflation as consumption is increased due to more umber of salaried person at the same time no improvement is achieved in the productivity. The reduced level of unemployment along with inflation will prompt bank to increase interest rate. Data shows that in 2013 the indebtness of British people is 140% of their salary and the debt is not distributed evenly among working population. Any hike in interest rate will result in many of the borrowers defaulting their payments on mortgages. Finally this will result in dampening of economic growth as the hike in interest rate is based out of unrealistic assumption of reduced unemployment. The HRM has a great deal to do in order to direct the scenario to the one expected by Bank of England. The wages and productivity of working class are the contrasting factors that influence the inflation. More salary along with low productivity will result in supply demand imbalance and will trigger inflation. If the wages are at par with the productivity levels then the economy will be able to stage growth. Working class will not acknowledge the fact that economy is growing unless it reflects in their pay pack. So to create a sentiment of growth the pay package need to be improved. This improvement should be accompanied by parallel improvement in productivity standards. The HR system in any firm has to devise clear steps to facilitate tis symbiotic activities of rise in wages and improved productivity. The HRM system has a significant role to play in economic growth of Britain. The trend of hiring while the real wage falls is giving a wrong feedback to policy makers. The unemployment falls without contributing to productivity. This result in the chain reaction of increased inflation which further leads to increase in interest rate that ultimately result in weakening of economic growth. The focus of HRM should be reducing unemployment at the same time improving productivity proportionately with the increase given in wages. Economic growth could be defined as an increase in value of goods and services provided or produced by a country over a period of time. Long term expansion of productive potential of an economy results in economic growth. It is measured using GDP and per capita income. Growth of an economy will not happen in isolation. As the economy is globalized events happening in one country will have detrimental effect on growth prospects of another country. For e.g. ban on import of agricultural product into a developed country will have serious impact on economy of developing country whose main source of income would be the agricultural exports. The drivers of economic growth of any economy whether developed or developing are the same. The contribution of each driver may differ depending on the type of country at hand. The drivers could be listed as a) Growth in physical capital stock b) growth in size of labor population c) Growth in quality of human d) technological growth that improves productivity e) Institutions of state f) Demand for goods and services (both domestic and eternal trade). Growth is in brief adding more value to your activities. Off late developed countries have moved out of concept of growth and started to focus on sustainability and stability. Developing countries are still after growth as small investment in capital could produce greater returns. This is in line with the â€Å"neo classical† theory of growth. For developed countries like UK major driver of growth is growth in quality of labor population and technological growth that improves productivity. The level of capital stock of developed country is high and has reached a stagnation state. The source of improvement for these countries comes from the technology development and improved quality of labor population. Technology improvement will demand for employees with enhanced skill. The employment level in a developed country will research a saturation level and the number of opportunities could not be further improved. There is a limit to how far the employment rate can be improved in the long term in developed countries.in such economy the growth for long term is driven primarily by productivity. Further the two improved productivity the growth will be pushed by increased employee participation and engagement in the business. Employee engagement is a critical part of growth and productivity in developed economy. The employee is les s motivated by the monetary benefit and looks for motivation in the role they handle. The involvement of the employee to the job makes him to deliver more which in turn results in improved productivity. In UK Tesco has realized this and incorporated employee engagement as a part of their HRM strategy. The GDP of developed countries rose during early periods as the demand existed for consumable products. With improved productivity of these products the growth rate was high. But once the product demand reached stagnation further improvement in productivity will not add to GDP. Hence new product segments need to be identified. For UK the prospects will thus be stronger in more knowledge-intensive manufacturing and services. The UK’s relative specialization in Publishing, Finance, Business Services, Communications, and Computer and Information Services is likely to persist for some time, supported by the increasing exportability of services and increasing demand for services as global incomes continue to rise. However, these are likely to continue to become more specialized, with some lower value added activities outsourced or offshored. Hence HR should focus on improving specialized kills and Innovative mindset of their work force. In developing countries focus is more on improving the quantity of employable population. The set of skilled labor is very low and hence the primary target of HRM system was to improve the number of employable population. Many IT companies in India have hired people with basic qualification and imparted training to them in order to induct them to their work force. This improved the human resource base of the firm and helped them in executing big foreign orders. These activities eventually pumped n more of foreign currency into Indian market and hence aided ion economic growth. The opening yup of Indian economy to the world in 1992 forced many of the companies to change the way they managed their human resources. HR functionality in developing countries like China and India is still evolving. Till a few years back the HR function was just limited to administrative functionalities like recruiting and dismissal, paying taxes and benefits. Talent acquisition, training, skill improvement were new concepts. . They had to make a way around the redundant work culture that prevailed in the country. Focus had to be shifted to more productivity than more employment. Another major HR intervention required in developing economy is regarding the wage and incentive. It includes remuneration system and also the system of appraisal, promotion and career advancement. The incentive factor implemented as part of the new system motivated employee to produce more resulting in improved productivity. The implementation of incentive system on base of quantity propelled the production and hence improved the GDP of these economies. The quality was compromised in this policy and China and India succeeded in capturing the price conscious market around the world. Sustainability of this mode of growth is being questioned and the concept of quality has to be introduced to the scheme. There is a need for a paradigm shift in mind set of working population for this transition. The HRM system in these developing countries has to come forward and contribute in this front to facilitate easy transition. The growth of every economy is determined by the influence of various driving forces in the economy. Human capital is a significant part in it no matter it is a developed or developing economy. The role of HR function is to improve the quality of human capital. Method deployed for this is different in these two types of economy. In the developed economy more focus is given to enhanced kill development and employee engagement where as in developing economy the focus is on production based incentives and expanding the employable population base.
